How the Warriors will honor Jerry West at Chase Center this season

The Warriors have planned a special tribute at Chase Center to honor the late Jerry West this season.

According to Warriors PR, the organization will have a courtside decal with the initials “JW” at Chase Center throughout the 2024-2025 NBA season.

The basketball legend served as an executive member of Golden State's board of directors from 2011 to 2017.

West helped make Golden State a contender as he was instrumental in landing Klay Thompson with the 11th overall pick in the 2011 NBA Draft. The 2012 NBA Draft was another West masterclass, with Golden State selecting players like Harrison Barnes, Festus Ezeli and Draymond Green. West also strongly supported Thompson when Golden State had talks about trading him for Kevin Love in 2014.

With their core in place, the Warriors ascended into the NBA stratosphere, winning the 2015 NBA Finals and beginning a streak of five consecutive Finals appearances.

The Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame recently inducted West for the third time for his leadership achievements with the Los Angeles Lakers, Clippers and Warriors.

West died last June at the age of 86.
