2 dead in wrong-way accident on Gene Snyder near New Cut Road

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) – A wrong-way crash on I-265 South on Sunday, November 3 left two people dead.

Louisville police said around 1:40 a.m. officers were called to the Gene Snyder just past the New Cut Road interchange, where they found the wreckage.

An initial investigation, along with witness statements, revealed that a man entered the interstate at Dixie Highway and drove north in the southbound lanes before colliding with a woman's car at mile marker 5.8.

LMPD said both cars were heavily damaged. First responders attempted to free the man and woman, but emergency services determined that both died in their vehicles at the scene.

Police said at this time they did not know whether the wrong-way driver was impaired or not.

The southbound lanes were closed for several hours following the collision.

The LMPD Traffic Unit is investigating.
