Melissa Gilbert compares TV dad Michael Landon to her sister's TV mom Roseanne Barr

Melissa Gilbert and Sara Gilbert grew up together as sisters and child stars. Looking back, Melissa believes they had very different experiences because of the shows they were on and the TV parents they had. At a recent appearance on The Kelly Clarkson ShowMelissa said that she doesn't think she had any bad experiences as a child star because Little house on the prairie was such a wholesome show with a loving cast.

She explained: “That’s part of it too Little house on the prairie. I grew up with Michael Landon. My sister is also a child actress and we're like, 'What's the difference?' I grew up watching Michael Landon. She grew up with Roseanne. Do the math.”

Melissa always spoke highly of Landon, who also became like a surrogate father to her in real life. She continues to try to pass on his legacy after his death from pancreatic cancer in 1991. Meanwhile, her sister Sara grew up playing Darlene in the series Roseannestarring Roseanne Barr, which proved controversial.

In fact, Barr was fired from her own spin-off, The Connersafter posting racist tweets online. Barr and Sara are reportedly not currently in a close relationship as Barr blamed Sara for getting her kicked out The Conners. She believes she was the one who complained about the tweet.
