Shoplifting at Pickens Walmart leads to crash in front of Easley on Saturday

PICKENS, SC (FOX Carolina) – Pickens Police report a shoplifting incident at Walmart led to a chase on Gentry Memorial Highway that ended in a crash in front of Easley on Saturday.

Officials report a K-9 unit was in the parking lot of a Walmart in Pickens when a couple fled the store with a cart full of stolen items around 8:45 p.m. Walmart employees reported the theft, officials said.

The couple got into their vehicle and drove onto Gentry Memorial Highway at a high rate of speed, police said.

According to officials, the suspect's vehicle overturned near the Easley city limits while attempting to make a turn.

Police Report: Damon Brooklyn Gaines, also known as Daman Brooklyn Hikeem, Young Gaines, was taken to the hospital while Latonya Ramsey was taken to the Pickens County Detention Center.

Pickens officials report the suspect is accused of shoplifting.(Pickens County Detention Center)

Ramsey was charged with shoplifting for more than $10,000.
