Suspected drunk driver causes fatal accident at night

BRADENTON, Fla. (WWSB) – The Bradenton Police Department's Traffic Homicide Unit is investigating a fatal crash involving a suspected drunk driver.

According to homicide investigators, around 10:40 p.m. on Saturday, November 2nd, 25-year-old Cesar Navarrete was speeding west on Cortez Road in his Nissan Altima, ran a red light and struck the passenger side of a turning Chevrolet Equinox Head north on 43rd Street West.

The Equinox passenger was transported to a nearby trauma center and died from her injuries this morning. The Equinox driver has no life-threatening injuries. Navarrete and the passenger in the Altima were also injured.

BPD arrested Navarrete on an outstanding warrant for driving with a revoked license.

Investigators suspect Navarrete was impaired at the time of the crash and conducted a driving under the influence investigation. Further charges are pending until the investigation is complete.
