According to the UN Children's Fund, 50 children were killed in Israeli attacks in 48 hours.

The attacks targeted Jabalia in the north of the Gaza Strip, which has been under intense Israeli bombardment for weeks.

Israel says it is trying to prevent Hamas from regrouping.

James Elder, a spokesman for UNICEF, says the killing of children in Gaza must stop.

Also on the ground, three Palestinian children were injured when an Israeli drone hit a makeshift clinic during a polio vaccination campaign in Gaza on Saturday.

The incident occurred as health workers in Gaza City launched an emergency polio vaccination drive for children under 10 years old.

The campaign is already underway in the central and southern Gaza Strip, but has been postponed in the north due to the unstable military situation.

Elsewhere, Lebanon's prime minister has ordered an investigation into Friday's kidnapping of a Lebanese captain by Israeli commandos.

Lebanon will lodge an urgent complaint with the UN Security Council.
