Winter Haven police are searching for a driver accused of crashing into a deputy three times

Police are searching for a man accused of hitting an officer's vehicle that was stopped at a red light Saturday night.

Winter Haven police say the suspected hit-and-run driver, described as a white male, was on Cypress Gardens Blvd around 9:40 p.m. was on the heels of the police officer. and 9th St. SE in Winter Haven.

The deputy was released from the hospital with minor back pain, WHPD says.

A woman was also identified in the passenger seat of the car, but officers said they could not clearly see the driver because of the Ford Mustang Mach-E's tinted windows.

According to police, after an initial collision with the officer, the man collided with the patrol car two more times while attempting to drive on Cypress Gardens Blvd. to start in an easterly direction.

Officers said they found the car with front-end damage outside the woman's Lake Dexter home. She reportedly admitted to being in the car at the time of the accident, but they still couldn't identify the driver.

No further information about the woman was provided. Officials say the investigation is ongoing and are asking anyone with information about the accident or the driver to contact the Winter Haven Police Department at 863-401-2256.
