Saints vs. Chargers final prediction and betting odds for Week 8

The Los Angeles Chargers return to AFC play in Week 9 with a chance to increase their record to 5-3 and make this week's NFL trade deadline really interesting.

After all, these chargers are said to want to be buyers by the deadline. This would get a lot more interesting if the first player of the Jim Harbaugh era could beat the Cleveland Browns before three more conference games in a row.

But the task isn't as clear-cut as the 2-6 Browns might seem. Cleveland is hosting the game, a week before the big upset over the Baltimore Ravens. There, the Browns appeared to be a completely different team with Jameis Winston at center in place of the injured Deshaun Watson.

Nevertheless, the Chargers are also a thriving team. Cooridnator Jesse Minter keeps the defense playing at a high level regardless of the opponent, which could mean the unit forces Winston into his old turnover-happy ways.

And Justin Herbert's offense really seems to be just getting started. The playbook has expanded week-to-week to accommodate the health of his previously injured ankle, and rookie wideout Ladd McConkey is a breakout star. Now he's prepared to at least include DJ Chark as a serious threat. Few teams are better equipped against a pass rusher than Myles Garrett thanks to the offensive tackle duo of Rashawn Slater and Joe Alt.

This should be a crucial road win for the Chargers, especially with Herbert playing at such a high level – the improving health of the team around him should soon match his level.

Final result: Chargers 27, Browns 20

Spread: -1.5 LAC

O/U: 41.5

ML: -120 LAC

According to ESPN BET.

The Chargers could get a higher snap count from Joey Bosa than last week, but six players still appeared as questionable on the final injury report.
