Bo Nix was named the NFL's Offensive Rookie of the Month for October

Bo Nix has been named the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Month for October, the NFL announced last week.

The Denver Broncos quarterback is the first Denver player to win the Offensive Rookie of the Month award since 2002, when running back Clinton Portis won the award. He is only the third Broncos offensive player (Portis, running back Mike Anderson in 2000) to win this award in franchise history.

Nix, the No. 12 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, threw for 870 yards with seven touchdowns and one interception while completing 66.7% of his passes and posting a 102.7 rating, leading the Broncos to a 3-1 mark record this month led October. The Broncos have posted a surprising 5-3 record overall and are in the thick of the playoff race entering the second half of the season.

The decision to name NIx was not without controversy. Many people wondered why the award was given to Washington Commanders rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels.

Daniels threw for 839 yards, four touchdowns and one interception while running for 206 yards in four games in October. Daniels' numbers would have been better had he not suffered a rib injury that forced him to miss the final three quarters of their 40-7 Week 7 loss to the Carolina Panthers. Daniels was part of the most memorable play of the 2024 season so far, a Hail Mary pass to wide receiver Noah Brown on the final play of the game to beat the Chicago Bears last Sunday.

Daniels was named Offensive Rookie of the Week in three out of four weeks in October and led the Commanders to a 6-2 record and first place in the NFC East.

Comments erupted on social media that Daniels, not Nix, should have been named offensive rookie of the month.
