Alleged hate crime with weapon | Local News

PUTNEY – A local man was charged this weekend with aggravated assault with a weapon, reckless endangerment, disorderly conduct, criminal threats and a hate crime.

Zachary Goldberg, 42, of Putney, is scheduled to be arraigned Monday in Windham Superior Court, Criminal Division. Further details about the arrest are expected to be released after the hearing.

According to a news release, around 1:15 p.m. Saturday, Vermont State Police received a report of an altercation involving a firearm on Vinegar Lane in Putney. Police said they arrived on scene, spoke with victims and witnesses to the incident and concluded that Goldberg pointed a firearm at a person, used offensive and hateful language, disturbed the peace and threatened people.

Goldberg was arrested and processed at the Westminster State Police Barracks. He was released with a citation and court-ordered conditions.
