Ten people have died in a truck accident in the Ecuadorian Amazon region

QUITO, Ecuador (AP) — Law enforcement authorities in Ecuador say 10 people were killed after the truck they were traveling in on the country's Amazon River plunged into a ravine. According to police in the Amazon province of Morona Santiago in the southeast of the country, the only survivor of Sunday's accident was a three-year-old girl. The authorities initially did not provide any information about the cause of the accident. Ecuador's Integrated Security Service said in a statement that the vehicle came to a stop next to the Paute River on Sunday morning after plunging into the ravine. Roads across Ecuador were busy throughout the weekend due to a five-day holiday marking the Day of the Dead.
