Two people arrested after three-vehicle collision, woman with life-threatening injuries

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – Metro Nashville Police are investigating after a three-vehicle crash left a woman with life-threatening injuries.

According to police, the accident occurred Sunday morning on Interstate 24 near the Bell Road exit.

Police issued arrest warrants for 45-year-old Yimer Veleno for negligent grievous bodily harm, vehicular assault, open container violation and no insurance.

Veleno's passenger, whose name has not been confirmed, was not wearing a seatbelt and suffered life-threatening injuries, according to police.

Police said Veleno and the driver of a white box truck were driving aggressively just after 2 a.m. and tried to run each other off the road.

As the two vehicles approached the Bell Road exit, the Honda crashed into the rear of the van and the side of a Mazda SUV.

Police said the van drove off when Velena and the driver of the Mazda stopped on the exit ramp.

Police said the driver of the Mazda, 25-year-old Nilubon Wiphawachart, was driving impaired and was arrested for drunken driving.

“Officers are asking the community for assistance in locating the van. It has damage to the rear, including broken rear windows,” police said. “Anyone with information about this and/or the driver is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 615-742-7463.”
