Republican praises Trump and Harris for 'impartial' immigration charge

A moderate Republican is pushing for a comprehensive immigration bill that he hopes will appeal to both Kamala Harris and Donald Trump in the fight for the White House.

The proposal from Rep. John Duarte (Calif.) would issue work permits for farm workers, mandate completion of the border wall and grant legal status to select undocumented immigrants if the border is deemed secure.

The bill, which he calls “non-partisan,” is unlikely to advance in the final months of this Congress, but it gives lawmakers a set of new legislative proposals to consider as they return to the negotiating table on immigration. Several houses…
