At least four helpless drivers are killed in a Michigan highway inferno when a semi-truck plows into stationary traffic and explodes

An inferno on a Michigan highway killed at least four helpless drivers and injured 17 others Saturday after a tractor-trailer plowed into blocked traffic and burst into flames.

According to Fox 2, the driver of the semi-truck failed to stop the vehicle as he approached the traffic jam on the west side of I-96 near Lansing around 11:40 p.m.

The truck, which was traveling in the left lane, crashed into several cars and burst into flames.

Photos from the scene of the accident showed a huge fire that engulfed numerous vehicles and spread across the highway.

Due to the construction site further down the road, there was a traffic jam and the driver apparently did not see the approaching cars.

The fiery accident occurred on an overpass over Michigan Highway 52.

Police said the overpass will be “closed indefinitely” while they inspect it for damage caused by the fire.

“We do not expect the road to be opened any time soon,” Michigan State Police said in a statement posted on social media.

The injured were taken to a nearby hospital, but their condition and the nature of their injuries were not disclosed, WLNS reported.
