DOC officer faces charges for alleged drug smuggling

A state corrections officer is charged with a felony after he allegedly attempted to smuggle synthetic cannabinoid-laced paper to an inmate at the Massachusetts Corrections Institution in Shirley.

According to a statement from the Department of Corrections, Roxsandra Wright was arrested Saturday following an investigation by the state Department of Corrections and State Police.

She resigned from the Department of Corrections at the beginning of October. Her resignation took effect on Thursday.

Wright is expected to be arraigned on her charges Monday in Ayer District Court.

According to the state's website, MCI-Shirley is a medium-security men's prison.

“The Massachusetts Department of Corrections requires the highest standards of professionalism and integrity from all employees,” Shawn Jenkins, interim commissioner of the Department of Corrections, said in a statement. “Any behavior that threatens the security of our facilities or undermines public trust will not be tolerated.”
