Man is charged in the death of a neighbor who intervened during the fight

An Ontario County man was charged this week in the mid-spring death of a Rushville man.

Nicholas R. Pascazi III, 32, of Rushville was charged Thursday with second-degree manslaughter and involuntary manslaughter, both felonies, in the May 5 death of his neighbor, Teddy R. Read. 55, also of Rushville, according to the Ontario County Sheriff's Office. He was also charged with third-degree assault in connection with the incident.

Emergency responders were called to a residence on Arnold Road on April 14, where they found Read unconscious and with a head injury, officials said. Read was taken to FF Thompson Hospital in Canandaigua before being flown to Strong Memorial Hospital for treatment.

Read died from his injuries a few weeks later – on May 5, officials said.

Deputies said Pascazi and another man were arguing on the evening of April 14 when Read tried to break up the argument. Pascazi is accused of striking Read in the head when Read attempted to intervene, causing Read to fall and hit his head on a concrete floor.

Pascazi and Read are neighbors and acquaintances, deputies said.

A charge against Pascazi was quashed Thursday afternoon in Ontario County Court. He was charged and returned to the Ontario County Jail. He was released after posting $2,000 bail, deputies said. He is scheduled to return to court at a later date.
