FRESNO COUNTY, Calif. (KFSN) — The California Highway Patrol is investigating a series of crashes that occurred on the same road in Fresno County.

Officers were called to Kearny Boulevard west of Fair Avenue for a crash just before 2 a.m. Sunday.

According to investigators, a 21-year-old man was driving west on Kearney when his Toyota Camry left the road.

The car collided head-on with a tree and immediately caught fire.

The man was unable to escape the car and was pronounced dead at the scene. It is unknown whether alcohol and/or drugs played a role in this accident.

While CHP officers were investigating the fatal accident, a man suspected of driving under the influence crashed into one of their patrol cars.

None of the officers were injured and were outside the car at the time of the accident.

The driver suffered minor injuries and is being booked into the Fresno County Jail on a drunken driving charge.
