Yair Lapid: “If Netanyahu didn’t know about the leaked information, then what does he know?” – Israeli News

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is either complicit in leaking secret information to thwart the hostage deal or completely incapable of leading the country, opposition leader Yair Lapid said on Sunday evening.

“If Netanyahu knew, he would be involved in one of the most serious security violations on record. If Netanyahu didn't know, then what does he know?” Lapid asked during a joint press conference he held with National Unity Party leader Benny Gantz.

“It is suspected that Netanyahu's people published secret documents and forged documents to torpedo the possibility of a hostage deal and to build a public relations campaign against the families of the hostages.”

This security breach came “from the Prime Minister's Office” and an investigation should be conducted to determine whether the security leaks and falsification of information were on Netanyahu's orders, Lapid said.

Netanyahu has claimed that he “has no influence or control over the system he leads.” “If this is true… he is not qualified to lead the State of Israel in the most difficult war in its history,” Lapid charged.

Gantz has criticism

Gantz said the security breach did not involve leaked documents. It was about “withholding state secrets for political purposes”. “When sensitive security information is stolen and becomes the instrument of a political survival campaign, it is not just a criminal offense, but a national crime,” Gantz accused.

“The theft of sensitive intelligence information by an official in the prime minister’s office is a black line, period,” Gantz said.
