Brickbat: Crime doesn't pay (much)

Former Memphis, Tennessee, police officer Arica Hutchison was sentenced to six months in prison and two years of supervised release after pleading guilty to conspiracy to steal a program that received federal funds. The program was Crime Stoppers, which rewards people who provide information that leads to an arrest in a crime. According to court documents, Hutchison entered false information into the department's databases and listed an accomplice as a tipster. She then fraudulently received $18,500 from the fake tips program. Hutchison must also pay $22,000 in restitution, undergo a mental health evaluation and counseling, take a financial literacy course and undergo drug and alcohol treatment.
