“She's smart, she's very good, you know, diplomatic, but there are very few people who have the arcane understanding of the WTO,” he said.

Still, her supporters like her focus on development. The British ambassador to Geneva, Simon Manley, praised their “forward-looking agenda for green digital services and inclusive trade” and stressed that he had rarely met “anyone so committed, so hard-working, so visionary and so connected”.
