Four wounded by ax in fight on Paris suburban train

Four people were injured, two seriously, by a swung ax in a fight that broke out on a suburban train outside Paris on Monday, a police source said.

One of the victims had his hand cut off and another had his skull split open, the source added, asking not to be named.

Two others received minor injuries.

Several people, including minors, were involved in the brawl, which broke out around 8:00 a.m. (0700 GMT), the source added.

The incident occurred while the RER rapid transit train was traveling at Ozoir-la-Ferrière station, southeast of Paris.

Because the train was stopped at a station, the violence had no impact on traffic on the RER-E line, which runs east-west through Paris and its suburbs, state rail operator SNCF said.
