Wind speeds could reach 60 miles per hour, increasing the fire danger in Ventura County

(Editor's note: This story was updated with information about possible power outages on Monday.)

Critical fire conditions are forecast for Ventura and Los Angeles counties Sunday night through Monday, the National Weather Service said.

Meteorologist Mike Wofford said Sunday that the agency had issued an advisory for possible strong northeast winds.

Wind speeds of 40 to 60 mph are forecast in Simi Valley and parts of the Conejo Valley. In the mountainous areas of Los Angeles County, wind speeds could reach 80 miles per hour, he said.

According to Ventura County Sheriff's Office Emergency Services, there is a possibility of power shutoffs on Monday due to Santa Ana winds. Residents who need assistance can go to the Arroyo Vista Recreation Center at 4550 Tierra Rejada Road in Moorpark or the Simi Valley Senior Center at 3900 Avenida Simi that day. Both centers are open from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m

Wofford expected a respite on Tuesday, followed by Santa Ana winds on Wednesday and Thursday.

The terrain is critically dry and the fire could spread quickly with any ignition, meteorologists said in a post on the social media site X.
