The southbound lanes of I-79 were closed following an early morning crash

PITTSBURGH (KDKA) – The southbound lanes of Interstate 79 near Wexford are closed following an early morning crash.

The accident occurred around 4 a.m. near Wexford Run Road.

According to PennDOT, the road is closed between Butler County and Rt. Interchange 910/Wexford.

Dispatchers tell KDKA at least one person was taken to the hospital.

Pennsylvania State Police tell KDKA that emergency crews are using the ramp from Warrendale Bayne Road to get drivers stuck in the closure off the highway.

It is unclear how many vehicles were involved in the accident and when the road is expected to reopen.
