Hearing of a Cleveland officer accused of firing a gun outside Lake County Elementary School

LAKE COUNTY, Ohio (WOIO) – The Cleveland police officer who allegedly fired a shot outside Riverview Elementary last week is scheduled to have a preliminary hearing in Painesville Municipal Court on Monday.

According to Lake County sheriff's deputies, 34-year-old Alexander Sinclair was off-duty when he fired his gun during a domestic violence incident in the school parking lot just after 9 a.m. on Oct. 31.

There were no serious injuries.

Sinclair is charged with aggravated assault, two counts of kidnapping and discharging a firearm on or near a prohibited premises.

Cleveland police confirmed that Sinclair is a sergeant with the department and is being suspended without pay as part of his legal process.

Lake County Sheriff Frank Leonbruno posted on Facebook that the incident began off campus and then continued on campus when the suspect's vehicle collided with another vehicle.

Sheriff Leonbruno confirmed that a single bullet was fired through the windshield of the second vehicle.

“Our School Safety Officer, who is a deputy with the Lake County Sheriff's Office, other sheriff's deputies and surrounding police and fire departments responded immediately to the scene and a person of interest was immediately arrested by our School Safety Officer,” the Riverside Local School System posted on Facebook .

Sergeant. Sinclair was hired by the Cleveland Police Department in April 2015 and most recently worked in the Fifth District.
