Driver in fatal Methuen crash to be in court Monday – NBC Boston

The driver accused of leaving the scene of a fatal crash in Methuen, Massachusetts, is due in court Monday.

Saturday morning, a pickup truck veered off Interstate 495 and crashed directly into a tree, splitting it in half.

Two people were killed and two others were taken to hospital.

The Essex County District Attorney's Office said the other driver in that crash, 26-year-old Katrina Nguyen, turned herself in to Lawrence police. She now faces multiple charges, including two counts of vehicular manslaughter. It was not immediately clear whether she had hired a lawyer.

According to officials, Nguyen was involved in the fatal collision that occurred just after 6 a.m. Saturday on northbound I-495. She was not on scene when first responders arrived, and officials did not say how they determined she was involved in the fatal collision.

Massachusetts state troopers and Methuen firefighters responded to a 911 call and found several people trapped in a heavily damaged pickup truck that had crashed into a tree on the side of the road.

A passenger in the truck, a 37-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene, officials said. Another occupant, a 41-year-old man, was taken to Lawrence General Hospital, where he died from his injuries. Their names have not been released at this time pending notification of family members.

Two other truck occupants were extricated from the truck and taken to Lawrence General with non-life-threatening injuries, officials said.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
