Drunk driver hits and kills bear in Hollis, New Hampshire – NBC Boston

A Massachusetts man is accused of driving under the influence after the vehicle he was driving struck and killed a bear in southern New Hampshire on Sunday.

Hollis police said they received a report of a car accident in which a bear was struck on Broad Street near Pine Hill Road around 6:15 p.m. Sunday. When they arrived, officers discovered the bear had died.

The driver of the vehicle that struck the bear, 30-year-old Timothy Harrigan of Leominster, was charged with DUI, driving under the influence and an open container violation after police noted signs of impairment and conducted further investigations.

Police said the aggravated drunk driving charge stemmed from the fact that Harrigan reportedly had a blood alcohol content of 0.17 at the time of the crash, more than twice the legal limit of 0.08.

Harrigan was arraigned and released on personal recognizance bail and is scheduled to be arraigned in Nashua District Court at a later date.

Harrigan arranged a ride from the police station, but police said his passenger, 29-year-old Sarah Chicoine of Nashua, was found to be driving with a suspended driver's license and registrations. She was summonsed to appear in Nashua District Court on these charges.
