Massachusetts man accused of killing a bear while driving drunk

HOLLIS, NH – Hollis Police responded to the area of ​​Broad Street near Pine Hill Road on Sunday after a report of a motor vehicle accident.

Dispatch reported that a bear was struck and died after being struck by a motor vehicle. The driver of the vehicle that struck the bear has been identified as Timothy Harrigan, 30, of Leominster, Massachusetts, according to police. While speaking with Harrigan, officers noted signs of impairment and conducted further investigations. Harrigan was taken into custody and is charged with aggravated driving under the influence, DUI and an open container violation.

Hollis police said the aggravated charge stems from the fact that Harrigan allegedly had a BAC of 0.17 at the time of the accident, more than twice the legal limit of 0.08. Harrigan was arraigned in 9th District Court in Nashua County and released on personal recognizance.

Harrigan arranged for a ride from the station by Sarah Chicoine, 29, of Nashua, who police say was found to be operating with a revoked driver's license and registrations.

She was issued a summons to appear in 9th District Court in Nashua County to answer the charges of driving after revocation or suspension and suspension of vehicle registration.
