When do polls open in Texas on Election Day?

Polls in Texas open at 7 a.m. on November 5, except in El Paso.

El Paso County is in the Mountain Time Zone. Your polls open at 7:00 a.m. MT or 8:00 a.m. CT.

The Texas Secretary of State recommends that absentee voters who plan to mail in their ballot on Election Day do the following:

  • “If you need help reading, marking or mailing the actual ballot, ask a trusted relative or friend for help. It is not uncommon for someone from a political organization to offer to help with your ballot shortly after receiving it. We recommend this.” They reject this type of help for several reasons. If you allow your ballot to be mailed by someone you don't know, it may not be mailed to a candidate's election office at all, or the campaign headquarters may have your ballot rejected.
  • “If someone helps you vote by mail, you must write your helper's name and address on the envelope that will be used to return your ballot to the early voting clerk. Your helper must also sign the envelope.”

When do polls close in Texas on Election Day?

Polls in Texas close at 7:00 p.m. on November 5, except in El Paso, where polls close at 7:00 p.m. (MT) or 8:00 p.m. (CT).

If a voter is in line before the polls close but does not cast their vote before the poll closes, they are still eligible to cast their vote, according to the Texas Secretary of State.

If a voter mails in their ballot, it must be postmarked by 7:00 p.m. on Election Day.

When will the Texas election results be available?

Even though polling stations close at 7 p.m., some voters usually still wait in line afterward to cast their votes. That means there is no set time for election results to be released, but early voting results are typically released shortly after 7 p.m

Because El Paso is an hour behind the rest of the state, major elections in Texas won't be played until those votes are in. This also includes the race for senator and president.

According to Tarrant County, election results will be available no later than 1 a.m. on November 6th.

Dallas County said it will release early voting results at 7 p.m
