Bloomington man arrested after reportedly leaving scene of fatal crash

BLOOMINGTON (25News Now) – A Bloomington man was arrested after he allegedly left the scene of a fatal accident on Sunday.

Police said the man, Michael C. Mitchell, 25, was arrested on the following preliminary charges:

  • Ruthless murder
  • Failure to report a fatal accident
  • Failure to report an accident resulting in personal injury
  • Driving with a revoked license
  • Failure to provide information/assistance in the event of an accident resulting in injury or death
  • Unlawful use of weapons/felons previously possessing/using a firearm

Officers were called to the area of ​​Fox Creek and Beich streets around 7:50 p.m. Sunday.

According to Bloomington police, a sedan carrying two people was traveling westbound on Fox Creek Road and collided with an eastbound sedan. The only person in the eastbound sedan suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the westbound sedan allegedly exited the vehicle and drove away, police said. The passenger, a 27-year-old woman, was taken to a local hospital where she died.

Her autopsy is still pending.

Mitchell, the driver, was at a nearby apartment complex. He was arrested and taken to the McLean County Jail.

The accident is being investigated by police, the McLean County Accident Reconstruction Team and the McLean County Coroner's Office.
