Man killed after hot asphalt was dumped on him in Jackson

JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) – A man was killed after hot asphalt was dumped on him following an apparent dump truck malfunction.

The incident occurred Monday morning at AJ Materials on East McDowell Road in Jackson.

Police said they were called there because of an “accident.”

According to authorities, the currently unidentified man was buried under hot asphalt after a dump truck broke down.

“My prayers, my condolences, my thoughts, my sympathies go out to his family,” Jackson Police Chief Joseph Wade said during a news conference about the incident.

Wade called the situation “terrible.”

The man's family arrived at the scene and told the boss that he was a good, hard-working person.

Jackson police are currently investigating, but the death appears to be accidental at this time, authorities said.
