Former Longhorns coach Tom Herman goes viral over confrontation after game against USF

Former Texas Longhorns coach Tom Herman never shied away from confrontation or controversy.

And even after leaving Austin, the Florida Atlantic Owls continued.

Last Saturday against the rival USF Bulls, Herman went viral for confronting opposing head coach Alex Golesh during a postgame handshake.

Golesh had opted for a two-point conversion because his team was already four points ahead in the fourth quarter – something Herman clearly took issue with.

Of course, Golesh's decision was no coincidence. Instead, it appeared to be a small payback for a stunt Herman pulled against the Bulls the year before, when his team attempted an onside kick in the fourth quarter when it was ahead by 42 points.

And Golesh hasn't forgotten.

“I said a year ago that we would come back to get it and we came back to get it,” Golesh said after the game. “Whatever was said, I'm good.” I think it was said that we were recruiting against each other, I think it was said that we didn't like each other. I have a lot of respect for these employees, I think they do a really good job… I have a lot of respect for a lot of these people. But I said we would come back to get it. Last year we were embarrassed at the end of the game at home. We came and got it, and we will continue to do so.”

Herman was also asked about the confrontation after the game, but offered details about the team.

“I wish there was a conversation, but no,” Herman said.

So far, Herman has a record of 6-14 in his first two seasons at FAU. The Owls are just 2-6 this season with wins over Florida International and Wagner.
