The Arizona Cardinals are currently in first place in the NFC West with a record of 5-4, so general manager Monti Ossenfort is hoping for a purchase at the trade deadline. He received additional pass-rush help on Monday as the Cardinals sent a sixth-round pick to the Denver Broncos in exchange for Baron Browning, according to CBS Sports NFL Insider Jonathan Jones.

The Browning trade shouldn't be a surprise. NFL.com recently reported that the 25-year-old was “at the center of trade discussions” due to his perceived upside, but his injury history was a concern. Browning started the first two games of the season, but a foot injury then landed him on injured reserve. He returned to the lineup in Week 7 but has not recorded a start since. Browning made one tackle in Sunday's 41-10 loss to the Baltimore Ravens.

The Ohio State product was selected by the Broncos in the third round of the 2021 NFL Draft. He started as an inside linebacker before being promoted to pass rusher and recorded 9.5 total sacks in the 2022-23 season. With Browning in the final year of his rookie contract, the Cardinals will take a good look at him before he hits free agency this offseason.

This is a developing story.
