Everett, MA: Drug Investigation on Gledhill Ave. near school – NBC Boston

A HazMat team secured a home in Everett, Massachusetts, on Monday after someone reported a person dumping drug-making chemicals in the city, officials said.

The home on Gledhill Avenue is about a block from Everett High School, but posts from the city and first responders on social media said there was no threat to the school. They did not provide further details about the drug-making chemicals that were reportedly dumped.

“A state HazMat team in protective gear is on scene…in Everett to search and secure the site in response to reports of an individual dumping chemicals related to the manufacture of illegal narcotics at multiple locations throughout the city said a Facebook post from the city on Monday afternoon. “Everett police and fire departments have currently cordoned off the area and the public is asked to stay away from the area until it is made safe by first responders. There is no immediate danger to the public and Everett Public Schools have been notified. Yes, yes.” No further information is available at this time.

Everett police said chemicals discovered at a home on Gledhill Avenue were the focus of the investigation.

“Roads around the area have been closed and the scene is safe, with no danger to surrounding neighbors and homes,” one post said.

It was not immediately clear whether anyone had been arrested or whether drug-making chemicals had been dumped in the city.

Everett firefighters said that if the area is still cordoned off at the time of the school's closure, students will be directed to exit the building at the front of the building or head toward Elm Street if they enter the building on Gledhill Leave Avenue.

NBC10 Boston saw streets in the area closed and a large number of firefighters, police officers and emergency responders responding to the intersection of Gledhill Avenue and Sycamore Street.
