The Raiders fire three coaches as the season spirals out of control

Three coaches have paid the price for the Raiders' disastrous season.

Raiders head coach Antonio Pierce fired offensive coordinator Luke Getsy as well as offensive line coach James Cregg and quarterbacks coach Rich Scangarello, the team announced after the Raiders were embarrassed 41-24 by the Bengals on Sunday.

The move comes as a bit of a surprise, as it is the first full season for the coaching staff.

“The guys fought until the end, I appreciate them for that,” Pierce said after the game via Sports Illustrated. “It’s a group effort, it’s a team effort. We all have to find a way to do better. We're going to pinpoint and look at a lot of things, from coaches to play instruction, players, execution to situations, so that we all do a better job and put ourselves in a position to actually have a chance to win in the fourth quarter instead of catching up .”

Las Vegas has a release week to sort things out, as Getsy led the Raiders to the fourth-worst yards-per-play average in the NFL (4.6).

Getsy came from the Bears and served as offensive coordinator from 2022 to 2023, working primarily with current Steelers backup Justin Fields.

Former Commanders offensive coordinator Scott Turner is expected to succeed Getsy in hopes of salvaging one of the league's worst offenses that also traded star receiver Davante Adams to the Jets earlier this year.

This is the fourth time in five years that the dysfunctional Raiders have changed coordinators or head coaches midseason.

Pierce, a first-year head coach after having some success as interim coach last year, isn't afraid to say that poor performances will lead to massive changes.

Pierce previously told reporters earlier this year that his players weren't playing their best and were making “business decisions,” which perhaps not so coincidentally preceded Adams' move.

Pierce has also swapped quarterbacks throughout the season, replacing Gardner Minshew mid-game several times, including during Sunday's loss.

Minshew had been subbed in for Aidan O'Connell, but the second-year quarterback immediately broke his thumb, forcing Minshew back into the starting role.

Desmond Ridder replaced Minshew in Cincinnati.
