Man suspected of slitting another's throat at West Salem Kwik Trip arrested in Tennessee

Just a day after a man was stabbed at a Kwik Trip in West Salem this week, a suspect in the crime was arrested after officers caught up with his truck in Tennessee.

West Salem police believe 59-year-old Paul Stokes is the driver who slashed another man's throat and chest at a Kwik Trip on Jefferson Street on Monday.

Stokes reportedly fled the gas station in a red semi-truck, and that truck was seen the next day in Kentucky. Within hours, police in Weakley County, Tennessee, tracked the truck and Stokes was taken to jail.

The injured driver was treated at a La Crosse area hospital.

Stokes is charged with recklessly endangering safety and aggravated assault with a dangerous weapon. It is unknown when he might be returned to La Crosse County to face charges there.
