Video showing 'British Bhajiwala' goes viral, internet reacts to his voice

A video showing a Brit selling vegetables at an outdoor market has attracted widespread attention on Instagram. He is seen trying to attract customers by shouting the local names of some of the produce in front of him, including garlic, okra (bhindi) and bitter gourd (karela). For example, he is heard saying that garlic costs 1 pound. The way he calls out the names, almost singing, is more reminiscent of street vendors in Indian markets. This sentiment resonated with several Instagram users. Watch the complete viral video below to understand:

The video has received more than 3 million views so far. Although many people responded with comparisons to Indian sellers, some pointed out that the Brit was trying to imitate Nepalese sellers. Read some of the comments below:

“He definitely knows the pattern.”

“This guy probably visited India.”

“Indians make UN return with British.”

“Rate Sahi Lagao Bheaya Itna Mehnga.” [“Give the right price, this is so expensive.”]

“He knows his target group.”

“Actually, they are doing this for the Nepalese community. These images are from Aldershot, also called Gurkha Town or Mini Nepal in the UK, similar to Southall. Retired Gurkhas and their families have settled in Aldershot. That’s why they don’t say it. “Lahsan,” but “Lasun,” a Nepali name for garlic.”

“He speaks Nepali.”

Earlier, another viral video caught the attention of desi foodies. While exploring the streets of London, a food vlogger came across a stall called Jhalmuri Express, where a British vendor had recreated the classic Calcutta snack. At the stand was an Indian-style trolley packed with steel and plastic containers. In the clip, we can see the seller expertly preparing the jhalmuri. Click here to read the full story.
