Islander charged with possession of 4,000 child pornography videos

A Shelter Island man was indicted today by a Suffolk County grand jury in Riverhead after he was arrested and charged with possession of more than 4,000 videos of child pornography, according to Shelter Island police Det. Sgt. Jack Thilberg

According to New York State Police officials, on October 23, the New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation arrested Juan Pablo Chuqimarca Guzman on multiple counts of possession of child pornography. According to State Police, Mr. Guzman was released on an appearance ticket and ordered to return to Shelter Island Justice Court on November 18.

State police officials said that after the initial arrest, further examination of an electronic device led to a search warrant for his home and found more than 4,000 child pornography videos.

Det. Thilberg told the reporter Monday afternoon that island law enforcement officers assisted in the investigation, including obtaining a search warrant and participating in the arrest.

Det. Thilberg thanked New York State Police officers for their diligence and noted, “We commend the State Police for their efforts in advancing the matter to the point of arrest.”

According to police, Mr. Guzman is an Ecuadorian citizen and an undocumented immigrant who was “living with a two-year-old.”

He was arraigned Oct. 31 in Shelter Island Justice Court on six counts of promoting sexual performance of a child (D felony) and held on $1 million bail, $2 million bond $3 million and a partial payment of $3 million, posted bail and had to surrender his passport to the court.”

Mr. Guzman was subsequently transported to the Suffolk County Jail in Yaphank prior to his arraignment on Monday.
