No. 8 Iowa State rolls past Chicago State, 96-56

AMES, Iowa – No. 8 Iowa State picked up its season-opening win over Chicago State by a score of 96-56 on Monday morning. The result extends Iowa State's winning streak in season openers to 30 games, the longest active streak in NCAA DI women's basketball.

Iowa State held Chicago State scoreless for the first 9:57 minutes of the game, led 29-3 after one game and entered halftime with a 52-19 lead. The Cyclones led the game and secured the win with over 50 percent shooting and a total of 10 three-pointers.

Four Cyclones scored in double figures, led by Addy Brown at 20. Audi crooks she had 33approx Straight game with 10 or more points, 16 total as a freshman Aili Tanke scored 12 points in her first career game. Alisa Williams also scored 12 points in her first appearance as a Cyclone.

Brown was great as he was just one rebound away from a double-double with 20 points and 9 rebounds. The second-year senior also had five assists, a career-high three blocks and one steal in 23 minutes of play.

How it happened
The Cyclones scored the first 29 points of the game when ISU hit its first four 3-pointers without missing a miss, including two from freshman Tanke. After one quarter of play, Iowa State led 29-3.

Chicago State made three baskets early in the second period, including two from deep, so the scoreboard read 33-11 with eight minutes to play. Brown hit a three-pointer midway through the quarter and capitalized on a chance to make it 1-1 on her next appearance on the court as ISU led 40-13. The Cyclones extended their scoring run to 15 consecutive points Emily Ryan 3-pointer for a 49-13 lead with just under two minutes left in the half. Iowa State took a 52-19 lead at the break.

Crooks scored the first goal of the half while Brown hit her second three-pointer within the first minute to keep the Cyclones going. With 2:28 remaining in the third, Tanke extended her run to 12, with her third 3 reaching double figures as ISU led by 52 at 76-24. Entering the final quarter, Iowa State held an 81-34 lead.

The Cyclones secured the final victory 96-56.

Top performers

Addy Brown had the sixth 20-plus point game of her career and capped her career with three blocks. The sophomore shot 6 of 9 from the field and 2 of 3 from distance while making six free throws with just one miss.
