Houston crime: Family hears fatal shooting that kills 17-year-old teen

Sheriff's officials are searching for a gunman who killed a teenager who was outside in his own neighborhood. The shots occurred in northwest Harris County.

The 17-year-old was shot multiple times at the Evolve Champions Apartments on TC Jester at FM 1960. He was just steps from his home, the apartment he shared with his mother and siblings, who were inside and heard the shots that killed him.

“I can’t imagine what the mother is going through,” says a neighbor.

The teenager's relatives said they were devastated. Several neighbors called 911 after hearing the shots when someone opened fire on the teenager around 9:30 p.m. Sunday night

“I was just in my apartment and heard two shots fired. Then we heard it again and thought, OK, there were shots. Then we heard screaming and wailing and someone said call the police,” a woman explained.

“I think the apartment complex should definitely be guarded or something. We don't need people being shot, especially not right in front of where my children live. I didn't really think something like that would happen in this area.” “It seems very nice.) Right, right. I think this apartment complex has only been in operation for about eight, nine, 10 months, so it's pretty new,” another man added.

“I just pray for the family. I pray that they find peace and that whatever happened, they find justice for the child,” said a neighbor.

Harris County Sheriff's Office investigators are now looking for clues using surveillance videos.
