The 85-year-old TikTok star gets 4 million views for senior living facility videos

DANVILLE, Va. (WDBJ) – An 85-year-old from a Danville senior living facility has become a TikTok sensation after her videos racked up millions of views.

It's a party at Commonwealth Senior Living in Danville where 85-year-old Nancy Weatherford has become the star of the show.

“I just love it,” said Nancy Weatherford, senior resident at the commonwealth. “It’s so much fun and brings us together.”

Since she first volunteered on the facility's TikTok page, her fellow residents have named her TikTok Queen and the videos she has appeared in have received over 4 million views.

“We call Nancy our little TikTok queen because our first one immediately went viral,” Heather Dehart, sales manager for Commonwealth Senior Living. “Now we have so many followers and they are looking forward to it. Nancy even had someone call her from Florida and say, ‘I saw you on TikTok.’ So it’s definitely a journey.”

“It makes me happy to know that I might bring a little joy to people,” Weatherford added.

You'd never know it from watching her videos, but Nancy was initially concerned when her sons recommended moving into a senior living facility last year.

“My husband had died and they said, 'Mom, you just don't have to be alone in this house.' I wasn't necessarily afraid of coming here, but rather of leaving my home. “I wasn’t here long before I knew they made the right choice,” Weatherford said.

Even though it seems like all fun and games, the TikToks she makes have a serious impact on residents.

“It gives them something to do. It gives them meaning. When family members from different states call and say, “Oh my God, I saw how much fun you're having on Tiktok,” then they ask, “When are we doing it next time because my family wants to know,” Dehart said.

“Being older is fun. Maybe young people think 'ugh,' but we also have a lot of fun,” Weatherford said.
