According to the Orange County Sheriff's Office, the perpetrator of the Saraland shooting is accused of murdering his girlfriend

SARALAND, Ala. (WALA) – A man shot in a shooting in Saraland on October 31 is now wanted for the alleged murder of his girlfriend, according to the Orange County Sheriff's Department.

On Oct. 31, Saraland Police Chief JC West told FOX10 News that the U.S. Marshals Task Force was searching for a Florida man charged with murder.

OCSO said they have identified the person as Jorge Quintero, who is now wanted for the alleged murder of his girlfriend, 29-year-old Carmen Elsa Escalante Carrera.

Officers said they first responded to Quintero's Florida home on Oct. 29 after family members reported he was suicidal. When they arrived, Quintero and his girlfriend were missing.

Investigators tracked Quintero to Alabama, where he was found Thursday in a shopping center parking lot in Saraland. There, U.S. marshals confronted him, which led to a shootout in which Quintero was critically injured and hospitalized.

OCSO told FOX10 News hours after the shooting, authorities in Georgia found an item they suspected might contain a body.

Over the weekend, authorities in Georgia determined the body was that of Quintero's girlfriend, Carrera.

Orange County investigators are in the process of obtaining a first-degree murder warrant against Quintero, who remains hospitalized in critical condition.
