The Chiefs finally give the beloved WR his chance with a surprising roster move before the Bucs game

Shortly before their Monday Night Football Week 9 showdown with the Buccaneers, the Chiefs made a surprising roster move, promoting fan-favorite WR Justyn Ross from the practice squad to the active roster.

JuJu Smith-Schuster is still out, paving the way for Ross' first game of the 2024-25 season. In 2023, he appeared in ten contests and caught six passes on 11 targets for 53 yards.

Kansas City faces a depleted Tampa Bay squad. With bad weather expected, this could be the perfect opportunity for Ross to prove he belongs in the squad for the rest of the season. If he performs well, it would be almost like adding another receiver to DeAndre Hopkins at the deadline.

The Chiefs are looking for answers at receiver despite getting off to an undefeated start. For this team to reach the heights it desires, it needs to find some playmakers. The loss of Rashee Rice, Hollywood Brown and Isiah Pacheco has complicated things, so Ross hopes to make the most of his opportunity.

It's unclear how often he'll play, but expect at least a few snaps. There's too much upside if Ross sticks around, and Patrick Mahomes would be wise to look his way.

Getting Hopkins more accustomed to the offense is obviously a bigger priority. Travis Kelce and Kareem Hunt remain the driving force, but Hopkins will get targets, as will Xavier Worthy.

This is a contest that Kansas City should dominate. The Chiefs are 9.5-point favorites at FanDuel Sportsbook with -400 odds on the money line, making them a bigger favorite than any other team for next week's games.

Here's hoping a potential collapse gives Ross the time to shine.
