Woman accused of attempting to injure officers during arrest

JONESBORO, Ark. (KAIT) – A woman is facing multiple charges after police said she attempted to injure several officers during her arrest and report.

According to the affidavit, Jonesboro police officers responded to a disturbance at a business on Fair Park Boulevard on Saturday, Nov. 2.

Upon arrival, officers noticed 21-year-old Carrie Sue Widick acting disorderly. She was told to leave the store several times, but was first given time to pack up her belongings and complete her check.

But instead of complying, Widick ordered another drink and refused to leave.

After being told again to leave, Widick was verbally abused and began arguing with the officer, who told her she was under arrest.

The affidavit states that when the officer attempted to handcuff Widick, she resisted. She was eventually taken to a sidewalk while they waited for the transportation officer.

When the transport officer arrived, it was discovered that Widick had one of her handcuffs slipping from her wrist and needed to be reapplied.

As Widick was being taken to the patrol car, she began kicking the officers, punching them in the legs and narrowly hitting their groin, “in an apparent attempt to cause harm,” the affidavit said.

Widick continued to resist throughout her stay at the Craighead County Detention Center and refused to enter the facility voluntarily. She had to be physically carried inside by the officers.

Once inside, the affidavit said Widick attempted to kick several correctional officers and bite one officer.

On Monday, November 4, Craighead County District Court Judge David Boling found probable cause to charge Widick with second-degree assault, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest – refusing to submit to arrest.

Widick was released the same day on $2,500 bail. Her arraignment is scheduled for Tuesday, December 17th.
