Four people died in car accidents in Fresno County over the weekend

FRESNO COUNTY, Calif. (KFSN) — Four people are now dead following fatal accidents throughout Fresno County.

22-year-old Miguel Marin is among the victims mourned by relatives.

“He was like an older brother to me,” said Marin’s friend Audrick Rosas.

According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), Marin collided Saturday morning with a parked large truck on Reed Avenue near South Avenue, where a memorial now stands.

Marin's friends say he ran track and cross country at Clovis Community College and showed love for those around him.

“I mean, this guy had two jobs, he paid for college, he would also find time in his day to run, and he would always be there no matter what happened for you,” Rosas said.

The next morning, one person died on Kearney Boulevard west of Fair Avenue, where a memorial also grows.

Another accident claimed the life of 32-year-old Anthony Thomas Sunday morning on McKinley Avenue east of Blythe.

“Three of the four fatal accidents involved a vehicle driving alone. These drivers simply allowed their vehicle to leave the roadway and unfortunately struck an object, ultimately resulting in their death,” said California Highway Patrol Officer Mike Salas.

The CHP also says that while investigating the fatal crash on Kearney, a driver under the influence of alcohol crashed into his patrol car. The driver suffered minor injuries, the officers were not injured.

Then on Sunday evening, authorities said 25-year-old Robert Garcia the 4th was speeding on Highway 41 and Mountain View Avenue and ran a red light.

He crashed into another car and a pole and died at the scene.

Now, as several families face the upcoming holidays and the rest of their lives without their loved ones, Marin's friends say they will honor his memory with their actions.

“I didn’t know how to live, and he showed me how to live. And I just hope that in the future I can find that Miguel in myself and express it in others,” said Marin's friend Jordan Barajas.

The investigation is ongoing, but the CHP is reminding people to be careful on the roads as it gets dark earlier.

Marin's family has set up a GoFundMe to help with funeral costs.
