Springfield Police Chief updates City Council on crime numbers; accepts grants to support the homeless

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) – Springfield Police Chief Paul Williams says violent crime is on the decline.

The chief updated the city council on the latest crime figures. He said crimes against persons and property have declined since the beginning of 2024. He noted that the number of shots fired, calls and firearm injuries have also decreased.

However, the chief said drug-related crime has increased since the start of the year.

The city council accepted a $5 million grant to build a 32-unit affordable housing development near Chestnut and West Bypass to help chronically homeless people.
