Greenwood man charged with attempted murder in shooting – Indianapolis News | Indiana Weather | Indiana traffic

GREENWOOD, Ind. (WISH) — A 20-year-old man is facing charges including attempted murder in a shooting involving his stepfather and his stepfather's son, according to Johnson County authorities.

Joseph M. Davidson, of Greenwood, has an initial hearing scheduled for Monday afternoon in Johnson Superior Court 3 in Franklin. As of Wednesday evening, he remained in the Johnson County Jail on a $100,000 cash bond listed in online court records.

Stepfather Aaron Hawthorne and his son were not injured in the shooting.

According to a redacted court document from the Johnson County Prosecutor's Office, Hawthorne reported the disabled vehicle shooting to police on Sunday in the 1600 block of Tuscany Drive. That's in The Trails at Woodfield neighborhood on South Honey Creek Road, about a mile east of the intersection of State Road 135 and Olive Branch Road.

The redacted court document did not name the stepfather's son and blacked out the stepfather's son's age.

The report of the shooting came around the same time police were dispatched to Davidson's mother's home where there were reports of a domestic dispute. In the redacted court document, the location of the home was redacted.

Investigators found five spent .45 caliber shell casings at the front door of the home and two bullet fragments in a neighboring home.

Davidson's mother, Lauren Hawthorne, gave police permission to enter the home, where officers found Davidson and later “secured” him from an upstairs bedroom, the court document said.

Investigators with the Greenwood Police Department believe Davidson was previously involved in an argument with his mother that resulted in physical altercations.

A witness told a Greenwood police officer he saw Davidson and Lauren Hawthorne in a verbal argument that turned into shoving. When Aaron Hawthorne tried to intervene, he and Davidson subsequently got into an argument.

Police believe argument and argument led to the shooting after Aaron Hawthorn and his stepson left the house and drove west on Cherry Tree Lane in a truck. This is located in the Cherry Tree Walk subdivision, east of the intersection of South Honey Creek Road and Demaree Road. It's about a two-minute drive southeast of Tuscany Drive, where the shooting was first reported to police.

A truck and a neighbor's home were damaged in the shooting, police noted.

A press release from Johnson County Prosecutor Lance D. Hamner said: “In Davidson’s bedroom, law enforcement located several rounds of .45 caliber ammunition, a small handgun, a .45 caliber magazine and a 10-round Glock magazine containing ammunition .45 caliber safe.” and a pink Glock switch that serves as a mechanical attachment to convert a weapon into a fully automatic machine gun.”

Online court records listed the charges against Davidson in addition to attempted murder: one felony count of criminal recklessness, two felony counts of intimidation; one felony count of possession of a machine gun; two counts of domestic violence; and two counts of criminal mischief causing damage between $750 and $50,000. The charges were filed Tuesday in Johnson County court.
