Kevin Durant of the Suns makes the game-winning layup to beat the 76ers

Phoenix Suns star Kevin Durant completed a layup with 24 seconds left that proved to be a game-winning shot in a 118-116 victory over the Philadelphia 76ers on Monday at Footprint Center.

Philadelphia's Paul George, making his team debut after signing during the offseason, missed a jump shot that would have tied the game as the Suns closed with a 14-3 run on Monday.

Durant finished the game with 35 points on 14-for-20 shooting. He hit a hard-fought comeback from mid-range to take a 116-115 lead with 60 seconds left on the clock. Philadelphia's Tyrese Maxey converted a Jusuf Nurkic foul after a floater the other way, but he split free throws to tie the game.

Durant looked at 76ers forward Guerschon Yabusele as the shot clock expired and he drove hard to his right and finished off the glass. He finished the fourth quarter with 15 points to lead the comeback.

Phoenix has won five straight games and improved to 6-1 on the season. The 76ers lost 5-1 without franchise center Joel Embiid, who missed another game with a knee injury.

The Suns weathered a barrage of 3-pointers from the 76ers as Philadelphia shot 20-for-51 from distance. Phoenix scored 11:32 from outside.

Phoenix had six players finish with double-digit points, and backups Grayson Allen and Royce O'Neale combined for 29 points off the bench.
