Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid faced another unfortunate dilemma Monday night as he dealt with a potentially serious injury to Patrick Mahomes. The ankle injury Mahomes suffered in the win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers led the legendary coach to debate whether he should take him out of the game.

Reid addressed the moment Mahomes went down with his hand on his ankle during his postgame press conference.

“Well, when he was carried away, it wasn't easy for me. I didn’t know exactly where he was going to be with that, but he had maybe the loosest ankles in America,” Reid said. “It’s ridiculous how he can come back from these things and on top of that he’s mentally strong.”

Mahomes would finish the rest of the game and lead the Chiefs to the game-winning drive in overtime. Reid had backup quarterback Carson Wentz preparing to warm up just in case his starter couldn't continue, only to be aggressively talked down to on the matter by Mahomes.

“He’s a competitor. I told him I was going to take him out and he wanted to fight me,” Reid said. “He’s a tough kid.”

The Chiefs return to action on Sunday against the much-improved Denver Broncos and all eyes will be watching the progress of Mahomes' ankle throughout the week.
