Chase Stokes reacts to the news that Outer Banks is ending after Season 5

Chase Stokes is ready to call it quits Outer Banks with a bang.

On Monday, November 4, the 32-year-old actor, who plays John B., leader of the Pogues, in the popular Netflix series, confirmed that the series will be ending after five seasons.

Stokes commented on the news by sharing his own message as well as the joint statement from co-creators Jonas Pate, Josh Pate and Shannon Burke, which was posted on the show's official accounts on Monday.

“It is heavy in my heart to write this. One last ride. Thank you to everyone who has been there over the last 5 years. You've given us more than we could ever give back to you ❤️,” wrote Stokes, who ended the message with, “It will always be Pogues 4 Life.”

The news comes just days before the second half of season four hits Netflix on Thursday, November 7th.

According to the creators, the fourth season was the “longest and most difficult, but also most rewarding to produce”.

“The season ends with a feature-length episode that we believe is our best and most powerful episode. We hope you feel the same,” the statement reads, noting that they are on a mission to “bring our beloved Pogues home as we imagined and planned years ago” during Season 5 .

“Season five will be our final season and we believe it will be our best yet. We hope that you will paddle with us again for your surf break,” the statement continued.

During a conversation with PEOPLE in September, Stokes opened up about who will star in the upcoming films Marked men And Bravewhich will be published in early 2025 Outer Banks as a turning point in his career.

“You can’t slap the hand that fed you,” he said. “You cannot discredit or disrespect the thing that has given you not only the opportunity but the ability to live a life that I never thought possible.”

He expressed his gratitude for the series, telling PEOPLE last month: “I would never make fun of the show for giving me the opportunity to live the life that I have. I will always be grateful for this show and for our showrunners taking a chance on a guy whose resume included few to no credits.
