Sri Lanka increases security as US and Israel warn of terrorist attack

Sri Lanka tightened security at tourist hotspots after the US and Israel warned their citizens to leave popular beach resorts because of possible attacks on visitors.

The U.S. Embassy in Sri Lanka on Wednesday urged citizens to avoid Arugam Bay, a surfing resort on Sri Lanka's southeast coast, after “credible information warned of an attack on popular tourist locations.” Israel's National Security Council called on its citizens to leave the country immediatelyBloomberg terminal Arugam Bay and Sri Lanka's southern and western coastal areas, adding that the travel alert level for the South Asian island nation has been raised “due to a credible terrorist threat.”
